Macca and I were thinking of holding a pub lunch meet towards the end of March with the aim of getting things organised. This is a club for everyone and we really do want your input and for people to be involved.

Can we have some suggestions pretty please :help: for preferred dates and time for the meet and a venue?

I would prefer the last 2 weekends in March and will travel anywhere and any time! I have two suggetions in my local area (as I know it well :p).

The Sportsman Pub (Burgess Hill), big car park as well.
The Woolpack (Burgess Hill), big car park, good food (preference).

if you look at where the local members are then choose somewhere in the middle ;)

Yeah that's my point on this one, I can only really recommend my local pubs and need some :help::idea:

I am not up for MacDonalds and would prefer somewhere any kids are pretty safe from the main road. I am happy to travel about so not too worried. No steep entrances, no ramps and big carparking a must.

Ooh snack van gets my vote!

There's some good places around the Eastbourne area for meets, Stanmer Park in Brighton is good but probably better for the summer when the grass is dried out a bit more. Not sure if they allow it but it's nice there and could get the old barby out ;)

Boxhill can be a good area as well. Eastbourne isn't too bad, what about coming inland a bit more? You volunteering to carry a smelly bbq Macca:eyes:

No point in me suggesting a pub local to me as I am in the minority with regards to location. But I am happy to travel over the river to Kent for a meet provided it's an easy enough place to find and the food is good!

Macca, not going to ask who you've had or what you've had in the back of the supra

Got to be some pubs around T Wells, lovely area.

And it's nothing interesting in the Supra, the boot and back seat are too bloody small! :D

Looking at that list looks like Tunbridge Wells is or surrounding area is a good one. Looking into pubs with a good carpark and reviews. Are we looking at possibly the last Sunday in March or is that a bad idea?

As for the back seats its so true, so small, the lude has the seat divider as well, maybe its designed for nuns :innocent:

Here is a suggestion, I have researched a lot of pubs and reviews, checked out a few numbers and seen if pubs are still open. Anyway found this one, parking is good, a couple of small ramps but nothing I don't think any of us couldn't get over. Parking is good (1000 spaces), food seems pretty reasonable (from reviews) and price wise. No booking needed and fine with us turning up on spec. I rang and had a quick chat. Tried a few places without joy so far ie parking no good, no kids, number not even ringing:rolleyes:

How do you fancy this for meeting up for Sunday lunch on Sunday 29th March ie about 1ish meet?

If you are happy we can start up a list. It seems pretty central for everyone.

Well that sounds like that'd be pretty good then :) Have to see if I'm having anything done on Katt then, but I've got nothing planned at the moment for then, so should hopefully see y'all there then!!

And hmmm, speed bumps generally aren't my friend, but we'll see eh?

Hmm speed bumps, these ones seems to be ok so they say, I can manage most, though my front bumper is now cracked from a hospital visit, steep road and raised exit, gutting.

Thinking of putting this back a couple of weeks and actually doing an April meet :) . Reason being that the first meet is an important one to get down dates and we need definite key people. If you think you want to be part of organising an event then that will be great and we need you. Same venue can be used but will put up details shortly.

March is mad at the moment so lets hope April is more relaxed.

That's great, gives us some time to repair the damage, the bumper was fitted to have be seamless with the wing and on one side its just started to show. It took quite a beating really but not an easy repair on that side.

I will check out that ramp height and will look into other possibilies if the weather starts to improve. Macca and I would like some photos for the front page taken at the first meet. Get looking around and see if there are any events that interest you and we can get that diary planned with everyones input.

That's great. :D Not sure if the manta will be ready but with James working so fast you never know. Having a nightmare trying to sort out uprated brakes, everyone recommends 2.2 carlton brakes, can you find them . Looking at lots of options, need to be 4 stud hubs.

I need to get some tyres on the back of the Supra as hopefully I'll be able to drive by then and need something to drive. Mondeo is still poorly and needing a tyre and Supra just needs them fitted to make it driveable again!

Not that easy unfortunately. Have researched a bit and vague pointers of volvos have come up on a few occassions but no ages of models mentioned. Carltons seem to be the better match but not easy to come across the right models. We will get there but it has to be a well thought out process after last time.:innocent:

Have you tried http://www.brakesint.co.uk/, Brakes International? They do new stuff at good prices for nearly everything going. Worth a look!

Ang
03-16-2009, 05:15 PM
Thanks for that, just going to take a look. Some people have had specialist Wilwood brakes made up, though that was for A series. James has driven the camaro today, he says if he doesn't get what its worth he shall be keeping it . He's hoping.

Any news on dates. It looks like the weather is warming up so could expand our choice of venue.;)

That weekend is a bank holiday so assume most people will be around the Monday?

Don't mind too much with venue, the one in T Wells. looks good, but could be busy it being a bank holiday. I think that's a problem we're going to have anywhere though. I think venue depends more on where everybody is coming from, then we can work out somewhere fairly central?

Ok just had a look at the map and three possible suggestions would be

1) to meet in Tunbridge Wells area and then for those that wish to go to Lydden Hill do so as a group. Bit of a drive but could be done if we meet early enough.

2) for those that might want to do Lyden Hill we could meet up, go up there and then meet the rest in Tunbridge Wells sometime in the afternoon.

3) as its our first meet we could just meet up in Tunbrige wells for a pub meal and keep it really relaxed. Give us a chance to talk things over, see the cars and do a bit of sorting out for events?

Yeah checked the availability, they don't take bookings on a bank holiday. They can not say if they are likely to be busy or not, its whether we take a risk or not? Any other suggestions would be welcome if not. Looked at so many now which are not suitable for parking.

It's going to be tough being a bank holiday, and it all really hinges on the weather. If it's nice everywhere will be busy, if it's not then nobody will want to come out!

If we can find a nice place with a big car park that takes bookings then we'll be laughing but not sure we will..

Well just spoke to a lovely lady at the Barn pub. She said they could take bookings if we needed to with a deposit. She said if we arrive before 1.30 pm we should be fine. In the unlikely event it was busy we would only have to wait a short while (about 10 mins) before getting food. They do a barn pub lunch or restaurant. On a sunny day they reckon it gets quieter in Tunbridge Wells :)

Parking is down a private road, she says they are marked with double yellow lines to prevent people parking there during the week. As it is a private road she said she guarantees we will be fine ie no fines (just to confuse you). There is enough room to park an awful lot of cars along this private road. There is the main car park a 2 minute walk away otherwise opposite the station.

im happy regardless ..im comeing to meet u guys not for the venue
its sph first meet so there will be issues etc but in time the good places will become regular ..
i will have a quick peek to see whats about .. idealy a member who lives in that area should do the venue cos they can check it out before hand ..

It is all about meeting each other yes, but we don't want to go to a venue with no parking/speed bumps that people can't manage/no room for us/no food/expensive food etc. So we do need to get a good place.

That looks good, and the menu is reasonably priced not like a lot of the pubs these days where you need a mortgage to have a lunch!

Have we got any members nearby that could have a scout around it?

Definitly worth a ring to see if they are still open, what parking is like and the cost of food. The camden arms seems to have a good name from what people have said. I will ring around right now!

Ok george and dragon, just phoned. Open, good parking, no booking needed and not likely to get turned away. I asked about food and its the pie and chips and ham, eggs and chips, baguettes. Not sure about it food wise but setting is ok.

Ohhh Camden Arms, just phoned them, parking for 60 cars, good range of food AND only 1 speed ramp (3 inches high). We can book, no deposit and just need numbers. Well what about them then, save me phoning up everyone. LOL.

Need to book asap if its ok to get us in asap.

This pub has had good write ups.

No I am all for it, 3 inches even my car can make it over :innocent:. Shall I make a provisional booking guys at the camden arms, looks good and friendly staff (not like the grumpy bugger at the george and dragon)!

Shall I make a provisional booking for 10 adults and 1 chid? What sort of time for everybody? Shall we try and meet up around 12.00, take a look at the cars, drink and then grub ie book for 13.00?

This could be perfect for me, as there is a great parts dealership for Chevys and Corvettes just down the road from here, I'll have to check if they're open Sundays so I can go there first and stock up on rubbish I don't really need.

Ang, might be an idea to get people to confirm that they are coming or send out a reminder. The names thread started quite a while ago now :)

Hello all - have come on to quickly post that I won't be able to be there after all. My stepdad has cancer at the moment and was taken to hospital last night, so I've had to rush down to see him and the family.

Sorry, would have loved to been there - had even made the effort of payng for the Chevy to be washed...
Sorry also for the late notice, things have been hectic here.

Next time, I'll be there, Scouts Honour

Jimbo

Hi Jimbo,

Don't be sorry at all, best wishes to your stepdad. I've been there myself and know what it's like so my thoughts are with you.

We look forward to meeting you next time :)

Thanks - I appreciate that.

Won't bore people with the details, but family comes first. With all respect to friends past, present and future, this is a lesson I don't want to learn the hard way.

Next time though, I'll be there. Missing both a chance to eat, a chance to drink, and a chance to look at cars is just painful.

All the best for your stepdad man.

And yeah, family does come first :)

Look forwards to next time though :)

By the way Jimbo, your Camaro isn't set up for drag racing, or look like it is by any chance is it???
