Probably won't quite fit into the theme of all the nice modified cars on here but here goes.

As my nova came off the road back in january I needed a car for day to day use, the only car within my budget turned up on the outskirts of london at a very good price.

Bought with just over 24,000 miles it was a bit of a bargain. :d

the only modifications so far have been my kenwood head unit, jbl speakers and I had to ditch the original wheels as they were somehow still wearing the original rubber! So I picked up a set of nova steelies for a tenner with nearly new tyres :d

Few pics from when I first got it:

Blimey, that's pristine under the bonnet and in the boot!

Since you've put up your old banger, I will get some photos of our recent addition, it's quite similar! :D

Ang

I saw a similar one at JAE last year, do you remember that turbo one Macca?

Oh yes, that was oozing retro coolness! :)

Steve

I'll have a look for yours macca, it actually goes really well for a 1.0, better than alot of 1.2 novas ive had. Plus theres the advances of it over novas, came from the factory setup for super unleaded, my 83 nova 1.2 had an unleaded head conversion from the previous owner. :D Its got a digi clock with calendar! autochoke carb and unlike a nova the gauges are all back lit so you can ACTUALLY see them at night.

Bad points, it looks like a micra! and it handles just as bad as a std nova, every corner means you end up on the other side of the car lol

Micra st im assuming? They go well apparently!!

oi oi oiiiii!!!
hold the frikkin phone.... 2 things that standard novas hold over the micra..

1. you dont need a blue rinse and box of tissues to drive em!
2. i can wear my chavvy trackkies and not feel arkward :D

besides i love falling out the passenger door on a hard rh bend !

george comes with a massive 55 bhp!
whats your k10 got???? :p

AW09
08-15-2009, 05:25 PM
55bhp of pure 1.2 carb power then lol Although knowing novas its problery about 3bhp now lol

Falling out the passenger door? You would end up on the passenger door if you went over 10mph round a bend! lol

she held her own against a ka the other day lol ..the amount of junk im rolling around with im suprised she moves lol
george has "injection"! woohoo lol

no.. the seatbelt will hold up to 40mph lol

AW09
08-15-2009, 05:30 PM
lol Its injection?! not a 1.2 is it? 1.2 spi's are only 45 bhp!

george is faster than mildred ...mildred is 1.2 carb ..george is spi 1.2
mildred cost me 50 quid and is fekked ..george cost me 80 quid and is on the road to fekkedness :).. but most lil cars ive had a razz with its been pritty even ..ford ka .. k12.. charrade .. to name a few
i love cheap lil cars ..they save me pennys :d

ahhhh, Nova 1.2's are fast..... Once youve ripped the engine out, replaced it with somthing decent and spent about 1k lol

08-15-2009, 05:43 PM
true but that would defeat the point of why i bought em ;)
i have my lude for that :d

Steve

No idea what power the micra has but due to the low mileage it probably still has what it came out of the factory with. Can't comment on 1.2 spi's as ive never driven one but everyone that I know said they were gutless, carb engines are wicked used to rape about 65mph out of 2nd gear! :p my mate was worse with his, he never wanted to change in to 3rd! but it took so much abuse and never went wrong.

MMmmmm I reckon novas are soo under rated. If we'd kept that nova I have a few ideas of what might have ended up in that engine bay!

I doubt you'd have to spend that much. If you look at my manta v8, £300 on the car (exclusive and rare car and well holey!) and a few hours of labour = fast car, shame about the bodywork.

You can do a lot with those and get them fast without spending lots of money, depends if you are after the bling or not:D

As you insurance goes down keep an eye out for the mantas, they have serious potential to muck around with!

Ang

Oh and must add, look out for the old cavaliers, chevettes, monzas and senators!

AW09

1k is way more than needed, thats more then enough lol.

I need another nova in my life, just to keep it standard and enjoy it, shame im skint lol

Oh and yer i deffo want somthing older, but its a job to know whats what.

Not sure how old you are but we were lucky in the past as we were given lots of mantas and had so much fun in them. Insurance has now become stupied though classic car insurance is better. That nova should be a in that category.

Enjoy that car and look after it as there are so few around, they are definitly worth saving, so much fun to drive. They are getting/probably as rare as the mantas.

There's a lot to be said about keeping cars standard so that the enthusiast actually can have a car like it. Some day soon standard novas will get their fair share of the money.

True petrol heads always remain skint, don't know what they spend their money on? :eyes:;)

All this on steves thread lol

Novas are already going up in value, theres a few forsale on the nova forum for anything from 1k to 5k!

Novas are damm rare like you say, not as rare as manta's for sure.

But anyways, off steves thread lol

I cant get over how tidy that car is buddy! My usual stance on micras is burn them all; however, this is certainly an exception. Nice car buddy :)

Thanks mate! I only ever bought as a runabout but it's really grown on me. Really wish I had a few more quid to throw at it, really drop it on its arse and get some superlites for it :D

lol still waiting to get the corsa mot'd, plus the micras ideal for my job, ultra reliable and economical.

Bit of sad news, parked it at work and some guys van rolled into it, he's offered to have it repaired though so thats something, shame though as its such an original car.

Not been on here in a while but due to me being an idiot an not changing the cambelt, the inevitable happened, had new valves etc fitted but its smoking loads now and using loads of oil.

Ive just sourced another low mileage engine for it so keep an eye on it :D

Ang
08-31-2011, 07:52 PM
Ooops - always the way. Still the engine can't be too bad price wise and an easy enough job. Good luck and don't forget to check that cambelt or replace it on the new one, got to be worth doing anyway for the price.
