Following my thread about a new daily driver (Link (http://www.southernpetrolheads.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=266)) and hours of searching auto trader, ebay, exchange and mart, friday-ad..... I finally found this.
I had a budget of around 6k and managed to reduce the list down to a vauxhall signum, s60 d5 pre 05 plate or an avensis.
The vauxhall was a nightmare as the one i specifically wanted was rather rare and the closest one was sheffield; I was willing to travel but the seller kept messing me around and the car turned out to be not quite how the description portayed it to be.
The D5's were nice however there were very few with under 60k on the clock within that price range.
I stumbled across this car by sheer fluke and decided to take a road trip up to hampshire to have a look at it.
The car was up for £5999 from a 2nd hand car dealer with 51k on the clock. I was a bit dissapointed after being stuck on the M3 for nearly 3 hours to find the car had no tax and could not be driven away :(. After a bit of bartering with the owner of the garaged I managed to get the car for £5600 including tax, new MOT, full service (even though its not due for another 8k miles), 2 new tyres and delivery from hampshire to my door. :D.
Cars being delivered on thursday and I cannay wait. The Peugeot finally gets laid to rest :d.
Well congrats on losing that viriginity and sounds like you got them sorted on the deal. I don't know anything at all about them so looking forward to hearing lots about this and getting to see it. :)
They are very nice cars, that one looks well spec'ed too!
And that price sound a bargin with all the stuff.

Cheers mate; yea I was chuffed for the price and what comes with the car. Its an 03 plate but has everything on it i.e. leather seats, heated mirrors, auto dip rear view, sat nav. My initial brief was a big comfy arm chair to take me back and forward from work and i think it fits the bill quite well :D

Ah well, the 2.0 is a very good engine anyway, did it go well when you tested it? I should imagine it's pretty nice and comparable to my 130 Mundano when it actually works lol

Yea it was very smooth; torque was more than ample for the daily over taking routine down the a27 :D. Looking on the forums they seems relatively bullet proof, the fault threads or very repetitive and its usually the fuel filters that go on them if you use Tesco diesel and they seem to have a problem with their injectors, however these are fixable.

Seems a common theme with modern diesels being fussy about supermarket fuel. In theory it shouldn't be any different as they buy it from the big companies but it seems to be lower in quality.
So is it here yet then?!

Yea its here :D... just emptied the peugeot and dumped at that on the granparents drive :D... Currently on the phone to the insurance company transfering the insurance then I think a little road trip to the petrol station is required :D

Ah, they buy it from the big companies, but it's not exactly the same fuel as the regular petrol companies put in their own pumps ;) In one of my previous lives I was a Sainsbury's deputy store manager and as such was also an authorised person for DCD and LCD fuel deliveries which meant I got to see all the paperwork etc.

I saw some pics on another forum of what the build up actually does to the fuel filter; was pretty nasty stuff!... Closest petrol company fuel station round here is hastings or eastbourne so atleast a half hour drive... im devastated :P

Ha... is there? I was concetrating on driving so hard I missed them ;). Car drives really well, more than ample torque for the overtaking and sits happily on the motorway...just need to figure out how this cruise control works now :S

Cool, glad your happy mate. Have to have a gander at it at some point :)
Can be the condition of the station's petrol tanks if they are not cleaned properly. Our cars are fussy and the mantas are always fussy about petrol, asda petrol is quite frankly crap! Never use it unless absolutely desperate. Tesco is great, noticeable smooth running, BP, shell and texaco all pretty good.
