View Full Version : My Project: My Tigra Daily Driver
Around 3weeks ago i was looking on ebay for a astra or corsa, just somthing to get me by while the nova is off the road and due to the fact that i cant trust it!. I just thought id look to see what tigra's sell for, see if there in my small price range... A week later i collected a 1.6 16v chequers (So has PAS, ABS, E/W, C/L, A/C, Electric sunroof and a few other small things) With a rare Irmy spoiler!
It was sold as what was thought to be a snapped cambelt, but as soon as i got there i checked.... and it had snapped! Handed over £150 and trailed it back from maidstone.
On the night of getting it back i stripped the head off it and found 6 bent valves, 2 valve guides stuffed but no damage on the pistons or head. Perfect.
The engine bay went from this:

To this:

Next day i orderd the bits and then rebuilt all the head. 2days later the car was running perfect
After a few other things were sorted i booked the mot (Tuesday!), its insured as of today, just so i get the insurance certificate next week so i can tax it and use it next weekend.... Providing it passes the MOT.
Ive also been buying things for it, another drivers door as mine has some minor rust, collect that later today. Also some tigra 5 spoke wheels like i have on my nova and a rear towing eye cover next weekend.
So far this car has only cost me around £400.
Il let the pics do the work now, as this has turned out to be a very long post for a car ive only owned 2 or 3 weeks lol.

Not too sure about that spoiler but it looks like a good buy. I thought the nova was unreliable because of the baby 16 valver? lol How does the tigra run?
Wheels look good on it. Anything else planned for it?
The novas engine is just unlucky lol, The engines can be good, this one runs perfect and pulls well for standard.
Im going to change the wheels lol, problery the same i have on the nova lol untill i can be botherd to get some new tyres lol.
Going to fit a powerbox to the engine and a flat flywheel, that will be the end of the engine mods.
Bodywork wise im just going to get rid of a few rust spots, already picked up a door and i just need to find a wing.
Spoiler certainly makes the rear end look better but in those pics its before i painted it again as the paint had peeled.
No real other plans, maybe in a couple of years il fit a V6 or LET.
Tiggys gone for her MOT.... And the EML came on half way there. Great, another job to sort.

My luck just ran out.
What happened?
It broke down on me! None of my cars have (apart from the 1.1 fiesta that ran out of oil......).
Fuel pump fubard, or a blocked filter i think. Going to replace the filter tomorrow.
As you may have read elswhere i fixed the car, It did need a filter as the fuel that came out of it when i took it off was black.
But it was just a lose earth and today its now done over 160 miles since then without fault.
So heres the new shoes.

They are in need of a refurb but thats what made them cheap lol
Dont know what colour to do them, white, black or silver again?
Going to photoshop them later i think.

I like those wheels, they're nice and inofensive and suit the car well. Probably be best in silver but if you do photoshop, stick some pics up so we can choose! :)
Forgot about this thread.
Few things have changed on the car, mainly that its done a millon miles lol.
The rear end is now debadged, looking to buy another boot to get rid of the big vauxhall badge.
Wheels are still as they are but ive got a couple of pics:

Oooo what have you looked at? Potential project again?
Not too sure tbh, would quite like just to have the money, but been looking at rx7's, s13's and other jap mobiles, but not sure yet, will see what comes up I think. Would love a sleeper, but very few out there. The though of scoobying the bug still hasnt left my mind lol
I think you need a vauxhall in your life lol, Build ya own C20LET (2.0 16v Turbo) Corsa for £2k :p
Il prob end up with another Corsa B, Hoping for a sport. Just something to play around with, Maybe 2.0 :d

Lmao, funnily enough a mate of mine who lives up north is a nova nut and has just sent shown me a pic of a nova for sale locally within a calibra turbo lump in it, think he wants around 5k though... theyve mounted the FMIC on the outside of the front bumper lmao.
Ahhhh nice, another little sleeper then :D

On the outside? Some twat on the Supra forum did that, after much piss taking it was named the EFMIC or EXTREMELY Front Mounted InterCooler :D

Haha, what a prick. Might as well bolt a sheet of wood over the front, it'd have the same effect on airflow.
Aerodynamics lesson #56879 - Air will always take the easiest path, that is around your dumbarse EFMIC and NOT through it.
Stavros

Lmfao, brilliant quote
lol that nova is known about i think, The reason the FMIC will be there is due to the need to cut the cross member, which some people Cant be botherd to do, SO thers a few with big cut outs from the bumper, or just like that, in front of the bumper.
Its stupid, but thats what some idiots do.

Lol, each to their own I guess... Might gripfill one to the front of the bug :D
RX7 I was after has sold... sad times :(

Do you really want an RX7? I mean they're nice, but repair bills? :nono:
Well it didnt sell, so keeping it for at least a few weeks, fix the AC, get a new door on there and just give it a tidy up.
Won a complete dash on ebay today for a bargin £15, so il use the heater panel for the Tigra, and sell/use other bits for the corsa.
Fitted the heater control panel bit, Checked all the aircon stuff, all seemed to be working, took it to kwit fit (uhhh) and got the aircon refilled, nice and cool now :d
Just need to find a door now, And some time!
Had this car off the road to fix some issues, mostly done now so swapping insurance back asap.
Its currently got the astra wheels on it, dont think it suits
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/100_4147.jpg
IMO the sill repair looks ok
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/AW_06/100_4148.jpg
Cant wait to have some speed back!
