Now I've got the car back I was looking forward to going out for some "fun" drivng this week.
That was until I stared to feel a bit rough yesterday afternoon. Then in the evening I get a message from work telling me the guy I sit next to has swine flu (he was off Monday but I didn't know why). So, wake up this morning, sure enough I have sore throat, headache, cough, snotty nose and aching joints. Ring doctor, "yes, I think you have swine flu, stay home and avoid contact with other people".
Guess the fun drives will have to wait a few days :(

Mrs Hammy went to Tesco's before she headed off to work this morning. So far I have discovered Rolo doughnuts and lots of milk. There are other treats for me to find still apparently :D

I want swine flu :(
I want swine flu :(
Come to my school..............lots of it or maybe just staff and students wanting extra long holidays ;)
My department is pretty sparse and feeling a bit rough myself. Got a trip to Seven Sisters on Friday in the peeing rain, if that doesn't finish me off don't know what will. Hope you feel better soon...........it will give you more time to get posting on here now though :p

It's getting closer and closer, am getting more and more worried about this. They still haven't got the bloody innoculation in yet either.. :(
God Macca, forgot about the implications for you. At school, seeing staff and kids it seems to go with a slight upset stomach, followed by fever and sweats (not always though), headache, sore throat and aches and being very tired. Possibly cough but not seen too much of that.
I spoke too soon, Zoe felt bad last night and me I got worse. I am now off with suspected swine flu :( The doctors staff asked if I had been on the gov website. I was a little irritated so told her that I had seen most of my department and kids down with it so knew the symptoms by now!
Do we have any piggy smilies :)? A swine flu special. I am wanting to get the antivirals asap so I can get back to work.

Oh dear, not good to hear Ang :( I hope you both get better soon! It shouldn't be any worse than normal flu for anybody who is reasonably healthy.
The reports of people without underlying health problems dying from it I think are grossly exaggerated. In these cases they said that they didn't believe they had any underlying health problems but that the families had declined to disclose any more information. Very strange, obviously had something sinister to hide.
Make sure you get the antivirals soon! They will only be effective with then first 24-48 hours of having symptoms, the earlier you take them then the more chance you have of them being effective. Don't wait, get them as soon as possible :)
There's quite a few people off at work sick, not sure with what though so am keeping my distance from people as much as possible!
I thought I'd pop this up as I asked my GP directly about the doctor and girl that had died with no underlying health problems. They both died through other reasons, the GP through a blood clot on the lung and the girl had an epileptic fit. My dad is picking up the Tamiflu, shall take it and hopefully feel better, not too bad at the moment, it comes in waves of feeling ok then back down you go to feeling very hot and extremely tired. Sore throat and a little bit wheezy but could be far worse.

I'm actually feeling a lot better today, cough and sore throat have buggered off, not feeling anywhere near as sweaty either. Hopefully be fine by Monday.

If you read between the lines and ignore a lot of the panic-driven hype, at the moment it's no worse than normal annual flu (which by the way kills 250,000 to 300,000 people a year worldwide). They forecast that roughly 1 in 3 people will only have mild symptoms even without any medication and probably not realise they have swine flu. So far the fatality rate is 1 in 200, all of which have had underlying health problems (oh joy) or have died or something else. Interesting about the GP and the girl, I hadn't read that yet.
It really does make me angry that the media are allowed to cause this panic and hysteria about the whole thing. Normal seasonal flu is just part of real life, and this is no different at the moment.
Glad you're feeling better hammy!
And hang in there Ang, you'll be fighting fit again soon! :)

..... fatality rate is 1 in 200.....
It's even lower than that, it's 1 in 200 of the cases that actually require medical intervention.
Yes the media have a lot to answer for and they are responsible for a lot of scared children who are not fully aware of just how bad the media are.

Not just the children though Ang, a lot of adults don't have the savvy we do and take what they read and hear as gospel. People trust the media, they have a very powerful position and abuse it terribly.
True - I am still confused by the GP though, the little girl that died had apparantly had an epileptic fit. I thought high temp such as high fever caused by flu could cause that? Unless you have unbiased facts no-one will find out.

High fevers above about 41C can cause fits and brain damage. I've had fevers slightly higher than that and it was horrible, I don't remember half of what happened because I was so out of it.
Not sure if that's still classed as epileptic though? Entirely reasonable that she had epilepsy which was triggered or made worse by the fever.

And.. how are you both feeling today??

Oink-oink ;)
Feel pretty good today, which is handy as I have to drive the dogbus to my mums place in Wiltshire and try and sort out the driveway gates as they've swollen and she's having trouble opening them. I suspect there is a list of other jobs waiting for me too......
Great one :) nunchuckhamster.
Yes think you are right Macca, probably not an epileptic fit caused by high fever (called something else but can not remember).
I felt rough last night, the fever came back and then went. Zoe seems to be similar peaks and troughs (LOL).

No but conveniently I am now based on the 2nd floor of Ocean House for two weeks, 30 miles from the sicky people in Lewes ;)
That tamiflu worked well but hope you don't get it. They say best way to "try" to avoid it is washing your hands a lot, esp before eating. Hope you have lots of windows and no air con.
Good luck!

I'm very good at washing my hands a lot, months in hospital does that to you! Work have hand cleansing dispensers in lots of places around their offices too, so I use them every now and again.
I've been madly avoiding anybody with coughs and sneezes, even refused to go to a training day in Lewes today and worked from Hastings where we have a dedicated office instead.
No windows (apart from the bloody computers ;) ) and no air con either!
