Well I went and collected it today, the new ride!

2005 Renault Kangoo Expression 1600cc 16V automatic :D Nothing done on it yet, but the plan is:
- Limo tint the windows
- 16" alloy wheels
- custom dash to house the double DIN stereo I have
- custom mount my 16.5cm coaxial speakers in the current speaker slots (somehow, cos stock ones are tiiiiiny!!)
- mount 2 amps on the shelf over the front seats
- mount components into each of the overhead storage bins
- install 2 subs in the rear (of course!!)

Probably more too, but hey, it's me, so will probably have some crazy crap in there somewhere :eyes:

But nuff chat, here's the pics :)

I like the way you've come from Grand Voyager to Corsa Van to Kangoo! :D

Looks nice and clean, I await the mods with baited breath :)

Crazy_C
06-22-2009, 11:53 PM
Well Voyager was too expensive to buy n to run, Combos were too hard to find in automatic, so now it's this :) All the space of the Combo, the seating of the Voyager, and the fun of a Renault :) Drives sooo beautifully it's wonderful! :) Love it!

is it on finance?
or own outright?
would modding it invalidate any warrantys?

if not.... i see clio bodykit on the horizon ! :)

Crazy_C
06-23-2009, 06:39 PM
It's bought on a 3 year finance, but the only warantee is 12 month extended warantee they threw in for free, manufacturer warantee has already expired.

Would a Clio kit fit?

But main thing shall be an audio install, but need to get some poopy little 10cm speakers as my 16.5cm speakers don't fit :( Ah well, they'll have to go somewhere else :p lol

If it's on finance, then read the small print VERY carefully. A lot of them have clauses which exclude modifications (and that includes cutting interior panels etc to fit stereo systems) being made whilst the finance is still running.

Crazy_C

They know I'm doing a custom installation anyways and I asked if I am allowed to modify it and they said okay.

Either way though, I shall be keeping all the OEM pieces and if I do cut up anything, it will be a spare bit that I get from the scrappy. Though I am not going to cut up the dash I've decided now, I am going to remove the clock / display bit, and then make a custom housing for the double DIN stereo to go in :)

Cheers for the advice though :)

Seriously, get that in writing, you'd be amazed how often these things get "forgotten" ;)

Seriously, get that in writing, you'd be amazed how often these things get "forgotten" ;)

Yeah good idea  I got it in writing from my insurance company about what they wanted in the engineering report, Definitly worth it as they can't change their mind now. :eyes:

Crazy_C
06-25-2009, 11:12 PM
Had a look through the T's & C's and couldn't spot anything about modifications being disallowed so guess that's good enough :) May give them a call though at some point to get in writing too if need be.

Got the stereo custom mount done though :) just need to wire in the steering wheel control adapter when it arrives, and cover it in vinyl, and wooo :)

Need to try and do something though to get 16.5cm speakers to fit in my speaker spaces, and they're 10cm speakers at stock. Hmmmm, should be fun!

Be careful bud, my car is on lease... in very very very fine print it states you must seek the owner's (finance company/main dealer) permission in writing prior to works to the vehicle being carried out. These modifications must be reversable etc etc. Plus you have to get it in writing it will not invalidate your warranty.

Ridiculous how black and white things have become, but ho hum, shall save that rant for another day :P

On another note, looks an awesome vehicle to kit out :D best of luck

Crazy_C
06-26-2009, 08:48 PM
I have no warranty on the car though anyways, it's out of manufacturer warranty, which is why I was looking at a car around 2005 / 2006 cos the warranty has expired so don't have to worry about voiding it.

But yes, I will be making sure that the modifications I do are fully reversible (for now lol)

This is the work I've done though so far - did the prototype housing, and have now made the final housing, and it'll be covered in blue PVC rubber (yes, the material from fetish clothing, which is why I chose it ;) LOL)

Well here are some more pics of the latest work. I have put the stereo where the clock used to be, and I've now taken the clock apart and mounted that (albeit in a classic Crazy manner  )

Stereo is tuned into an amber display and buttons to match with the other dials too.

Going to use some padded fabric to cover over the stereo surround and dials surround and then cover that with the blue PVC rubber I've ordered :D

But here's it as it is now:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a148/bkcr1/P6270754.jpg

And one feature of the Kangoo is a pull down mirror so the driver can see the passengers in the back - wouldn't wanna see this on your back seat though eh?

2 words - NEW TOY!!! :D :D :D

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a148/bkcr1/DSC_0482.jpg

Will go and get the subs that this will be powering tomorrow :D The Infinity 4032CF speakers should be coming in tomorrow too so lots of stuff tomorrow :D

Stick the Infinity 4032CFs straight in the space of the OEM ones, and start work on building the box for the subs :eyes: Ooooh, this will be fuuuuunn!!! :eyes:

Crazy_C
07-06-2009, 10:45 PM
Been working on the sub enclosure too - bear in mind I am having 2x 10" subs going in the back - this is the work so far - the steering wheel is 330mm to give you an idea of the sheer size of the thing!!!!!!! It's 900mm x 460mm x 420mm in size with a port 18" long, 76mm tall (so long it has to fold up at the end!!!!)

You've been a busy boy :D How's it going or should I say, sounding. ;)

Crazy_C
07-09-2009, 02:00 AM
Other port has been made and installed, and I've made the front plate too, and have the subs, just need to do the internal wiring, put the front plate on (easier to do the wiring with it off) and then cover it and it should (fingers crossed) be sounding totally immense!!!! :)

I'm building it to the maximum size spec with the full size port so it should be brilliant!

And yea, been busy, but only been doing an hour or so a day of work because of all the rain stopping work :(

Crazy_C
07-12-2009, 10:31 PM
Well the submissive box is built  :D

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a148/bkcr1/DSC_0505.jpg

Two Kicker Solo Baric 10" L5 Dual Core 2Ohm subs in there, all going to be dominated by one of these beasties:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop//images/var/VIBE-BASS-4.jpg

Heheheheeeee

Now just gotta get it into the van...............hmmmm...............not gonna be easy :( Damn only having one good leg!! Plus it weighs a LOT cos of all the MDF and the size of the magnets on the subs

Crazy_C
07-13-2009, 05:51 PM
Heheee, installed it now!! :D

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a148/bkcr1/DSC_0507.jpg

Got the amp mounted on the top and it's brilliant! Gotta run the subs in but even running in they kick out a seriously good amount of bass without it being overpowering (unless you crank it up!!)

lambo-lude
07-13-2009, 10:29 PM
like i said crazy man ...keep that gain down esp on run in .. its a monster amp and you have the budget solos .. the subs will give no warning when the voice coils fry !
lol... but a good build none the less !

Crazy_C
07-13-2009, 11:06 PM
Yeah, the gain is down but to be honest I probably won't adjust it much from where it is as I have the remote control on it and it gives a great bass on that :D

Made me laugh though earlier as I had a load of chavs in a Corsa pull up next to me at lights, sub blasting out all bobbing their heads, so thought "lets have some fun" and just turned my stereo up and laughed at their faces drop as they just looked across at this Kangoo killing their sound system Hahaaa :p

Cheers man, really really pleased with the results :)

Hahaa, yeah, can't wait till tomorrow evening when I head down my old school for the kart club (one of the old boys) and they take the piss outta the Kangoo - turn up a little bit of bass and I'll be laughing LOL

Can't wait to get the rest of the stuff in there :) hehee

Crazy_C

Not yet, but I shall be getting some ramps at some point, and I'll get the front end in the air, take the front end off and see what I've got under there. I'll probably end up fabricating a bracket like I did for my old Skoda to get them holding on properly, but will see what I'm dealing with first space wise.

07-15-2009, 10:54 AM
Yea, I know that :( Had someone *try* to break into my old van to nick the sound system but we caught them (it's not easy breaking into a vehicle that really is armoured and bullet proof!! :p )

But luckily where I live it's usually very good, and only places I park really are shopping centres and near the local pub LOL

Crazy_C
07-16-2009, 07:06 PM
Well I made another trip round to Car Audio Security, and picked up more goodies from them again! :D

So along with the the Vibe Blackbox Bass 4 amp running the 2 Kicker Solo Baric L5 10" subs, I now have a JBL GTO 4000 amp powering my little 4" speakers at about 75W RMS on each one of them and it is really kicking out the sound with such wonderful clarity it is incredible!!

As soon as it was all wired in, I listened to Kate Voegele's Hallelujah and OMG, the sound was just totally beautiful :D

I also picked up a Vibe Blackbox Stereo 2 amp to run the 2 Infinity Reference 6522si coaxial speakers I'm going to be mounting in each of the front door cards.

So here's all the amps :D The JBL is tucked away there so that it's out of sight cos it's hella ugly, and it's upside down so I can acces it easily through the nearside rear seat folding down :)

There are laws about not tinting front windows because of reduced visibility - wonder what they'd say about that?? Please note, I was stopped when I took this photo - My hair just was stuck like this

Crazy_C
07-17-2009, 01:02 AM
Yes, I would cry if it goes walkies, but then again it's the same as anything - wheels, stereos or even the whole car!!!

Has an alarm on it anyways so that'll certainly help, but really, who's gonna check in a Kangoo for an audio build like that?? But I never leave it somewhere where it could get broken into anyways. It's only ever outside my house, or in carparks where there's CCTV and I park with the back against a wall or gate anyways so you can't get in the back.

Well I've decided after some research and having a ported box that I'm going to go for a sealed box as the bass although is good, is distorted a bit, which I have found is to be expected with ported boxes, sooooo, gonna make another box at some point :D

Buuut, update so far for the work I've done today :D

The windows have now been tinted with a dark smoke tint (20%) and although not as distinctive as limo black is, it still makes a massive improvement on appearance and can still see out through it :D

Yes, they are ontop of the engine, but hey, they fit!! Though I don't think it's a good sign though when there's enough space ontop of the engine for airhorns without them hitting the hood! Hahaa

lambo-lude
07-23-2009, 07:04 PM
a sealed box will give much tighter boom .. you only realy have a ported box for low powered subs that struggle .. twin 10"s should be punchy

oh an nice horns !

Crazy_C
07-23-2009, 07:31 PM
Ahhh, that's kinda what I thought, but was advised by a few local places to build a ported box and it is very good on bass but it isn't quite as crisp as I'd like.

Oh, n cheers, thought you'd like my horniness ;) :p lol It's reaaallly loud, louder than it was in the lude cos they're up the top now n pointing across, not down :)

Got a few more modifications to do and to play with still on the audio side of things - going to look about sticking two 6x9s and two 6.5s in the shelf and two 6x9s in the rear overhead storage bins (1 per side) too, again, with more amps!!

Crazy_C
07-24-2009, 10:30 PM
Cheers man, and yeah, the pockets that were in the door were modified for me by a local place (they tinted the lights too) and they do just unscrew from the main door card :)

Need to get some speakers higher up now :)

very nice crazy man..;)
bear in mind ..(not the fuzzy type) that when building audio setups the base should be low in the car and the tweets should be high for best results :)

you splashing out a bit of cash ... infinity kappas/or referances..black vibe amps .. kickers..body styleing .. you done your local posty??:p

Crazy_C
07-25-2009, 11:38 AM
Cheers man. And yea, I'm gonna add a couple of 6x9s up high as at the moment all the sound is low down (apart from the tweeters / 4" speakers which are mid height and point upwards so give a high sound)

But I want the fuzzy kind of bear now :p lol

Nope, not done my local postie, just spending money I don't have (as always) and going to pay it back when I get paid next week lol Though the tinting of the tail lights was only £40 :)

And I've made an amp rack too (which will later be carpetted and have a cover over the front too)
