Typical DVLA are being as useless as ever, please do read this link. I paid for the opel manta tax at the start of May and handed in the V5 with the chance from a 2.0 L to a 3.5 L. I was surprised to find my V5 returned 4 weeks later with no change.

I rang up the DVLA and quoted from their reference guide that came with the V5 that no evidence was needed with an increase in engine size. 10 mins later an embarassed DVLA guy rang back and said he was sorry but they had changed the rules and handed out old documentation.

New rules state that ANY engine change (even for the same engine type) will need written evidence. He even admitted that will discourage people from notifying them of the changes.

Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)
DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

VERY poorly written as I pointed out the DVLA. Surely a written confirmation on headed paper from a garage for changes in engine and/or engine size after buying a car is acceptable? They say they will accept it. I am giving them the old manta details etc on our letter headed paper and they say it is fine.

If anyone has any difficulties and they need a hand ;) Please pm.

Hmm, interesting. They do like to do dumb stuff just to catch you out don't they

So in theory for the engine change between my two 405's, I'd need written evidence of this?

Yes, what a pee take! Though all you need is letter headed paper from "the garage that fitted it" ;)or you can write in and tell them the reg details and engine number of the car it came from and hope they accept it. Not sure if they will accept it but they said they will do this with the manta.

Really and honestly, what will this achieve?? It won't stop theft or ringing or anything like that, it's just more hurdles for law-abiding people and more things for the rest of them to ignore and not bother with..

Tsk!

:sign_dontgetit:

They are mad! Even the dvla bloke agreed it will cause a lot of people not to do to let them know. As I pointed out what was wrong with the old system? People signed to say they had changed the engine and gave engine number. Oh and they kept it VERY quiet.

What next, taking a photo of your car for color changes??

I never had any trouble at all sorting out my van going from 1.6 to 3.5!! Gah, the systems these days are just getting stupidly insane and overly complicated!! Probably hoping someone messes up ad they can do them for it I'd guess.

Cheers for the heads up Ang :)
