Ok, the discussion in Crazy's thread got me thinking about 0-60 times so I thought I'd start a new thread instead of going even further off-topic in his!

For instance, my Supra in stock form is supposed to do the 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Stock it has 326bhp/325lbft and weighs about 1660Kg.

I've never timed a 0-60 dash in the car but as soon as I can work out the speed signal in to my datalogger I'll be able to get a very accurate time for it. All depends on the driver too, so this will say a lot :D

I know even stock it's a powerful car, but 4.9 still seems quick for a very heavy rear wheel drive car.

On the other hand, Natasha's Civic Type-R has 197bhp (torque almost irrevelant in a VTEC) and weighs 1200Kg. It should do the 0-60 dash in 6.4 seconds.

Discussions, thoughts and experiences? :)

I'm not a great fan of manufacturers times to be honest, as you pointed out in the other thread, they are usually obtained under optimal conditions. Also, the same car can make different times depending on a whole variety of things (as per my own example, I can lose 20-30bhp depending on air temperature).

I suppose I should probably just keep a list somewhere every time I do a run and include a note on temps, fuel load and type etc.

Personally I like the 60-100mph times as a better way to compare the real power a car can make use of. Hmmmm.....I can feel the OBDII may be getting a workout soon (I need to do some logs anyway so that Marco can start work on my custom map, ready for my new 470cc injectors :D)

Puegeot 207 - Manufacturers time 0-60 in 14.2secs

VW beetle, 1600cc 54bhp 0-60, some time this year (hopefully).

My old Civic Vti could manage around 7 and a bit seconds with a stop watch. I imagine my A4 would be around 8 or 9 seconds, it doesn't feel as quick as I remember the Civic being...

I totally agree, mid-range acceleration is a much better representation of what a car will be like on the road in real life situations. It's not always easy to find these stats when looking for car info though.

0-60's go down with things like flywheel dyno horsepower. Unfortunately most people don't understand the importance of mid-range acceleration, wheel horsepower and what torque is. They don't usually enter the pub-chat conversation!

With pleanty of ballast in the front, all windows up and going down a near vertical hill then yes; in reality i think i'll turn 60 before the bug reaches it :)

Well I just go on Katt doing it in around the 5.5 mark as I was only a little bit behind a friend in his Mazda 6 (can't remember what had been done to it, but was proven to do 0-60 in just under 5.5)

But what I'm looking at now, you just don't bother about 0-60 times LOL

crazyman 0-60 times are used cos of the legal speed limits ...it all depends what u want from your car ..

pocket rockets rule the 0-60
power cars rule from 70 upwards
ive been in the tuneing game long enough to see 200bhp rst beat 400bhp skylines 0-60 easy ..its all about power to weight ratio and how the car puts that power to the road

crazy your lude aint doing 5.5 ... sorry dude :(

0-60 times not bothered with as in it's a 1.3 diesel van that weighs 1.2 tonnes LOL That's measured in minutes, not seconds hahahaaa

Didn't think so, but I was shocked with the Mazda race, so guess they can't race for poo then if it was proven to do it under 5.5 hahaa Did it a few times, and I was only a little behind him each time.

Crazy C get some sleep :)

If it was a mazdaspeed 6 then that is capable of 5.4 sec but standard mazda 6 is 6.4 sec.

Apart from the obvious I don't know how you are managing to change gear that fast with your dodgy leg. I am only just getting back to the norm myself.;)

You would have to spend serious money, as James said, to knock even one second off any car's 0-60 and for what benefit? I think mine is capable of probably a 7 sec 0-60. Personally I'm not fussed with the preludes 0-60 sec time. Now maybe the gto or the manta for that :eyes:

Oh and by the way the 3.0L twin turbo mitsubishi gto will do 0-60 in 5.6 secs as standard and I can 100% gurantee that you will be left way behind that car off a standing start. It launches itself :eyes:

Feeling left out! missing my Civic Vti, the A4 is a slightly un-inspiring beast when it comes to fast accelleration. That 1.6 Vtec engine was so much more fun than my 1.8 Turbo!
