Yep............I am looking to get rid of the Prelude for a Chrysler Grand Voyager!!!

2.2 VTEC for 3.3 V-6
0-60 in about 5.5s for 0-60 in 12s

BUT!!! Insurance would be £100 less a month for me, so considerable saving over the year, petrol would be about the same so that's all good :D

Though I wouldn't be called Crazy if I was getting a sensible car for sensible car reasons.................wanting it for comfort for when I go camping so I can sleep in the back, with a massive ICE installation with plenty of speakers, several TVs (looking to put about 6 TVs in!!)

So should all be some fun :D Just gotta get the money now!!

Was down the local Chrysler garage yesterday having a look at one in person and my god, they are SOOOOOOOOO lovely!!!

They're supposed to be quite nice inside, comfortable etc. but they have a pretty patchy reliability record. Like most things yank built, they're not exactly engineered. I'd do some proper research if you're serious for one as a lot of the reviews on a quick google search show owners with big repair bills and long lists of problems.

And 5.5 0-60, you guys make me chuckle :D

Yeah, I am doing a fair bit of research on the reliability of things. Looking to get a newer car where I can play around with things like the sound system and not have to worry about maintenance.

And why do we make you chuckle? My lude really does hit 60 in around 5.5. I only need to change gear once to get to 60 easily anyways so no time wasted with all that, what with the car hitting just under 70mph in 2nd gear without hitting the rev limiter :D Gotta love Hondas :D

Hey Macca "guys", you're not lumping all prelude owners in that one quote :p More like 6.6 to 7.2 depending on the spec.

Mine I have no idea of the 0-60 spec but its not a 5.5 0-60 one, I drive one because there is nothing comparable to drive like it for the fun factor not because of fast acceleration.

Be careful with the old girl of yours Crazy C. If you've converted the speedo they can be about 10mph out.

Good idea on getting something newer, but not everything newer is more reliable (speaking from experience with my Mondeo! - Don't buy anything common rail diesel, they're all crap).

I've not heard great things about Chryslers in general, their build quality or reliability so check things out carefully.

You make me chuckle because the book 0-60 for a 2.2 VTEC Prelude is about 6.9. Manufacturer's 0-60 times are done with very capable drivers and most people who aren't racing drivers would struggle to get that close.

I understand that you lot believe your JDM car has an extra 15bhp, but that doesn't account for 1.5 seconds off the 0-60. My 400bhp/360lbft Supra would struggle to do the 60 sprint in that time.

Me too :D

Ang, you're forgetting one thing, you're not a 'guy'! :D

I think somewhere around the 7 is much more realistic, depending on driver, tyres, conditions etc. And how much crap you've thrown away from the car to make it lighter lol.

I totally understand why you all love the Prelude's and the VTEC. I absolutely love driving Tasha's Type-R, it's nowhere near as fast as my Supra but it's just so FUN. Getting it up in to the VTEC and hearing it scream whilst launching it round some twisties is incredibly rewarding. And they do feel very fast, mainly because of all the screaming noise!!

If I was going for a B-road countryside thrash I'd choose the Civic over the Supra every time. More grin factor.

Ask T4_Mark, he's experienced it ;)

As an example re: 0-60 times...

The book time for my C70 T5 is 6.7 secs in standard config for the manual car, power is 240bhp.

Using the cars OBDII system to provide time & speed data, I tried it this morning and did it in 5.98 secs.

With the ambient temps etc today, my car would be producing approximately 285bhp. So, roughly a 20% power increase has gained me 0.7 secs.

BTW, who needs a VTEC? I can do 74mph in 2nd, 115mph in 3rd and well over 140mph in 4th :p :D

The real problem with the T5's (even the standard version) is keeping traction in 1st gear, if I didn't have to feed the throttle to maintain grip until rolling properly then I think 5.5s would be possible, especially on a properly cold day.

Word to the wise, if you ever try and race a T5, make sure you get a good lead early and that there are plenty of bends in the road as the standard suspension is "barge-like" but in a straight line in 3rd and 4th gear they are seriously quick :D

:D:innocent: Guys, you know what I mean:p:):p

Its hard to find a good 0-60 spec for the jdm cars because of obvious reasons. They are great top end but not designed for blowing people off the lights.............. anyway you lot the mitsubishi gto's engine easily takes 85mph in 2nd so :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p and not sure what the manta does as it has no speedo :eyes:

VTEC is handy for economical driving which is why its good for everyday though with mine not when its lowered and the roads are shite.

Bah, who want's economical driving anyways?

Still say the answer is always in a V-8 :) 1969 Dodge Chargers came rolling out the factory able to hit 180mph, which for '69 is extremely impressive. Hell, that's impressive by today's standards too, but tune the engine properly and they have more to give from that 7.2L V-8!!!

You are forgetting that Katts bhp is actually now 10 bhp less than it came out of the factory as Crazy C said with his dyno??

Should be taking a 1200(est)bhp one round Nurburgring at some point next year :D hahaaa That'll be fun!!! No joke, I am making sure my will is sorted before then!!!!!!!!! :not:

Got some mates in America who are in the Mopar clubs and bringing them across for some fun, but one of them currently has a 850bhp General Lee and he's getting the engine block rebuilt, something done on the compression and cams (not too sure) and having it supercharged!!

I'm gonna diiiieeeeeee!!!!! But my god, what a way to go - In a General Lee on the Nurburgring! :eyes:

Huge power & crap handling + Nurburgring = ambulance & fire brigade required.

Maybe. Or maybe it just produces the same as the UK cars, I thought there was no proof that the JDM cars actually produce more than the UK cars and that it was just hearsay?

Anyway, Crazy has since serviced his car so I thought it should be back to the 'JDM spec'? :innocent:

According to my buddy, the handling is awesome with a custom set up suspension on it that is strong enough to cope with 2 1/2 ton body roll!!

I'm both looking forwards to it, and not at the same time if you get what I mean! But he uses it for racing round the dirt tracks like they should be :) but on tarmac will be very different and he's never driven it hard on the black stuff, just done burnouts (very easily done............ not that that really helps on track though LOL)

The 69 charger's speedo only went up to 150 mph, and the top speed for the 7.2 V8 top model 425 bhp car is 145 mph. 0-60 comes in at 7.1 seconds. (Thats the 426 hemi block aswell, not the normal 390 bhp model) But thats still insanely quick for its day!

The new (2007) charger manages an impressive 168 mph, which is great for such a heavy car, and also manages 0-60 in under 5 seconds! (4.8 I think). The new Dodge Challenger is even quicker than that!

Its all about the sound!! Awesome cars.... in a straight line! :)

:p Now why is it people like jap imports :p

Sounds rather nice to watch the General Lee  but yeah I am sure it would not be easy to control. Though I am sure people driving those cars do have some experience.

Because they're generally cheaper and more available, plus you often get different spec on them (not just engine, but accessories etc.)

People liking them is not proof of power now is it Ang ;) :tounge:
