Afternoon all,

Just wondering, as there are a few volvo owners here, if anyone has a decent place to get spare parts at a reasonable price, specifically an AFM sensor for a 2.4turbo...?? Having strange issues with it, will lose power occasionally, wont run with the sensor plugged in and the general running could be described as temperemental :D Managed to get the codes read and they point to the sensor as well.

Weird things these volvos, not really played with them before, but it's a lovely motorway cruiser :)

Just not quick enough :D ...yet!

Cheers,

Itchy.

Hey dude, I'm afraid quite a few of the Volvo boys are in Sausage-land at the moment nursing their cars around the 'Ring. Andy and Nunchuckhamster are still around though, the latter owning a C70 himself.

The others will be back at the weekend and I'm sure they'll help out ;)

Not being crude here ;) but sausages and ring don't really go

What on earth are you doing with a volvo Itchy? By the way that recovery truck is progressing well on the welding front;)

Hi Itchy,

If its not quick enough, im afraid thats because it isn't a T5!! Have you tried here? : http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com or http://www.nordiccar.com/

These are the places I would check first for cheap parts!

MAF: Whatever you do, DO NOT buy an Ebay special, no matter how good the price seems, they are f**kin sh**.

Have a look here, http://www.emissioncontrols.co.uk/page.php?domain_name=emissioncontrols.co.uk&viewpage=Maf%20%20Sensors

Genuine Bosch units, exactly the same as you get from Volvo but instead of the £150, they come in at about £80 IIRC.

As Kerry says, power-wise, you bought the wrong engine :p

What year is the car? As that determines which engine management you have (mechanical throttle or fly-by-wire). If it's a 1998, then you'll need to go see if the car has HT leads and a dizzy cap as that is the year that both were available :D

Imperative with these cars is a thorough "Stage 0" service, guide can be found here....http://forums.t5d5.org/index.php?autocom=ibwiki&cmd=article&do=download_file&id=4

Tuning is really based on pocket-depth with these cars ;)

Unfortunately, not much for these cars falls into the category of "cheap", but if you haven't got one fitted, get a genuine Volvo strutbrace. These can be had for £71, delivered from FRF Volvo, Swansea (a maindealer). Additionally, Rufe (real name Simon) who works in their parts department does us a huge discount on genuine parts. If you need anything, give them a ring on 01792 790066 and ask for Simon, tell him you got the number off Nunchukhamster and he'll sort you out.

Next job is to dump the snowguard off the air intake pipe and get a dremel out to remove the piece of plastic it's mounted too, that removes a 90degree kink from the end of the intake pipe. Induction kits make pretty much no difference to these cars, so just chuck a decent panel filter in (I use a JR Filter).

There are a number of remap options available, and on a certain UK based forum you'll probably encounter a guy called Hamish Lindsay, who trades as HLM motorsport, avoid him like the plague. Him and his "colleagues" have completely melted several engines and done generally shoddy work on a lot of others. Unfortunately, one of his cronies also happens to run one of the bigger UK Volvo tuning forums, so you can probably guess that little about this gets mentioned on there.....

The big name in these cars for remap is RICA, and the standard, off-the-shelf maps are ok. However, they are just that, off-the-shelf, not customisable.

IMO, and not just because I have one, the best product is from a smaller company called MTE. The guy who owns the company (Marco) also writes all the maps and has "access" direct in to the Volvo factory in Sweden. In the UK there is only one distributor for them, Don Norchi (no, he's not a Mafia godfather) who's company is Kalmar Union. The standard stage 1, 2, & 3 maps are superb, but the real bonus is that these maps can be fully customised by Marco, either with him sat in the car as you drive or remotely with the aid of some clever kit, if you go for additional modifications.

Don also sells some other "interesting" toys, including Ferrita exhausts, AP racing brake conversions etc etc :D

Whereabouts are you in the UK?
