Just had a look under the Ka to see how to adjust the handbrake cable and found this...

I don't know much about cars, but we bought this Ka with 11 months MOT on it back in November last year, judging by the chalk highlighting the crack someone has obviously pointed out this problem to the previous owner - this either happened within the month after it was MOTd or it went through the MOT like this!
We're off to some local dealers to find ouselves something to chop it in on now! Just what I needed this weekend...:badmood:

bearing in mind I will have to pay someone to do that...? surely this is gonna cost a few hundred?
Also we paid £850 for it and can get £600 trade in...
Gonna get a quote for a repair but there's bodywork that needs sorting too, and it's not exactly practical... And I hate it......

If you can get that on trade in, trade it in. And don't buy another Ford! lol..
Also, piccy not worky :(

piccy not worky??
It shows up here, how odd...
I take it you didn't put that white chalk around it, if not that is an obvious chalk mark around it for needing welding for mot ie what they normally do. It makes you wonder what else will need doing
Shouldn't be an expensive fix by any means. Good idea to stay away from a KA, you should have seen the mess my dad was in when he had a head on crash it was awful and almost killed him, the renault megane that he crashed into the lady walked away uninjured he had to be cut out of it. They are terrible cars.

I didn't put the chalk there, and no one's mentioned it to us since we've owned it either. Gonna get it looked at today, get a professional opinion...
We were offered £700 trade in yesterday against a 1999 Pug 206 1.4GLX, 3 month warrantee, yr MOT, 1 lady owner etc. Would be pretty much ideal.
Ruth loves her Ka (first car) but I think it might be time for a change, we paid £850 for it and another £250 for a clutch, I guess it's cost us £400 in 7 months in that case, but it makes sense to trade it in now while it's still got some value to it. It's had 6 previous owners!
Once the old tin worm gets it's teeth into a car it's pretty much never ending in my experience.

Saw the car doctors and turns out the rust isn't as bad as I first thought, needs about £160 worth of welding in all, but added to all the other problems with the Ka we decided to get rid.
Traded it in on a 1999 Peugot 206 1.4GLX, got £750 for the Ka in the end. Picking it up on Saturday which means I shall never have to drive a Ford Ka ever again!

Looks as though it was done on a previous MOT.
And nooooooo!! You didn't just go and buy a French car did you?? :( I'd rather drive a Ka than a 206!!

Hey I've changed my mind Macca, our t reg 306 td that we picked up for £200 has been a brilliant run about.:p I think its you and bad luck :innocent:
No way KA, like I said if you saw how they hold out in an accident and how they rust wouldn't touch a KA with a barge pole.

Have you seen how 206's fold up, they're no better at all. They're incredibly flimsy and fall open like tin cans. I wouldn't want to be in one in an accident. I wouldn't want to be in one full stop! :)
I think Stavros would very much agree with my view of French cars too, as well as a few of the Volvo owners on here who have had French cars that have been good to them and still think they are crap.
You've just been lucky with yours ;)

I may have just had a bad pick; but i've owned my peugeot 207 for 2 and a half years (from new) and in that time ive had:
3 new alternators
1 new driver side seatbelt mechanism
1 new passenger side window motor and runners
1 tinkering with the ecu as there is a fault with the hazard lights randomly coming on when the feel like it
1 new head gasket (23,000 miles)
2 new keys as they decide they no longer wish to work
2 new rear light clusters
£5200 ono :D lol
I know where you're coming from with regard to rust, just having several hundred pounds worth carried out on the beetle which had been picked up on a previous MOT and painted over... Think im going to invest in a unicycle instead of motorised transport. :D

im sure it will be fine... :p

I have been lucky with ours but then that's because we turn a lot of crap down. You know what I think of French cars Macca :p just quite like the 306 for a run about. Though with Ofsted tomorrow it will be the day it throws a paddy and blows up.

I have to be honest and say that I have driven a 306 XSi many years ago and was very impressed by it, great handling. I still wouldn't buy one out of principal though! :pah: lol

Its what my dad has, his is used all day long and never lets him down. Think they seem to be pretty good. Once upset by a make of car you never go back. Saying that I would love another 19 16v but not as a regular drive as it would spit out its engine or gearbox.:D

Genius! - that would solve the rust problem, although the only time I ever saw one it was broken down at the side of the A21...
