Could all drivers face 10-year health checks?

Motorists could soon face a range of new health checks to determine whether they’re fit to drive, according to fresh proposals from the DVLA.
Drivers may have to undergo a series of physical and mental tests every 10 years, including eye performance and reaction times, before they’re deemed fit enough to get behind the wheel.
Anyone who falsely claims to meet the requirements will be committing a criminal offence. Drivers with concerns can take a test, which will cost up to £80, to confirm they meet the established standards.
The move will help the DVLA to regularly assess the many motorists who use their car despite suffering from conditions which could affect their ability to drive, putting themselves or others in danger.
Currently, only the over-70s have a regular fitness to drive review, as they renew their driving licence every three years, but under the new proposals all drivers will undergo reviews once a decade.

Not sure I would pass the mental tests or is that you have to be mental enough to drive :banana1:

£80 to do it, they want to test us they should pay!!

I can't see that being a bad thing if they do it properly, apart from the cost. The standard of driving in the UK these days is absolutely shocking. I get so angry most of the time when I drive, people just have no idea and no care.. Grrr..

what a bloody cheek, making us pay £80 so they can see if we are capable of driving safely:no:

i agree its a good idea though, just to get the many bad drivers off the road, and i personally wouldnt mind taking these tests if i didnt have to pay.

i also think that questions should be asked about driving test examiners!
because at the end of the day, drivers have passed their test to the examiners satisfaction, which means either they cant do their job properly or people choose to drive like idiots after passing their test.

I'd go for the latter of those two considering modern society. Not that the driving test standards are high enough either though.
